Swinburne Student Radio began in 1974, run by hippies with beards and brown pants.
Like most memories of the 70's, 3SSR's was fuzzy. The 80's saw expansion and a unprecedented 30 spins of 'Wake me up before you go go'. After the Government decided to remove the majority of community radio station licences, instead of dieing, 3SSR decided to stream over the Internet.
In recent times, 3SSR has enjoyed some minor surgery to cover up its aging lines.
In the 2007, 3SSR moved from the flanalette pocket of the Student Union to the SSAA team (it was like the musical Annie-3ssr played Annie, use your imagination). 3SSR have now moved a couple of metres to a shiny new studio (still in the UN building) and the fear of dieing from asbestos poisoning has finally disappeared.
Now streaming live 24/7 at www.3ssr.org, Swinburne Student Radio will be around until Jesus returns and decides we should all be listening to Nova or something........
Membership is $5 each year, this then gives you the opportunity to have your own show on 3SSR and if you are interested in joining the 3SSR committee, you will even have the chance to put your promoting and events organising skills to the test!
